The Amazing
Oreratile Success Story

Introduction by Randall Geldebloem - Director Of The HIV Aids Foundation of Southern Africa (HAFSA)

Having had some considerable exposure to natural health and healing methods, and having read that a healthy immune system is able to control the HIV virus, I could not help feeling that far more could be done to improve the vitality and to boost the immunity of HIV-positive individuals.

Eventually the conviction became so strong that I approached Neville Mandy, author of the book "Disease-Free," and founder of the health food company, Nature's Choice, and asked him if his company could suggest a lifestyle and dietary program that could improve the vitality and boost the immunity of the children at the Oreratile orphanage.

Within days, Nature's Choice had a program up and running at the orphanage. Bigger windows were installed on the sunny side of the dormitories, the borehole was repaired so that the children could have the benefit of good water, and the staff were introduced to natural foods and natural cooking methods. Then various incentives were put in place to get the children enthusiastically involved in the program.

While the program certainly seemed to be simple enough, the results were more than dramatic - in fact, they were nothing less than amazing:

To enable the reader to experience just a little of the excitement and wonder that ensued, we have included below the transcripts of two unsolicited letters that were written by Mrs Patricia Fillies, director of the Oreratile Orphanage, and addressed to Mr. Mandy and the directors of Nature's Choice. The first letter, that which is reproduced immediately below, was written just five weeks after the program was started . . .

As a matter of interest, Mrs Fillies work at the Oreratile Orphanage was recognised when she was voted Woman of the Year for the City of Bloemfontein in 2004.

Dear Mr. Mandy

We would like to thank God for sending you here when He did, for your amazing support on the special lifestyle and dietary program, and for the life-giving food products.

Our borehole and tank are now working. Bigger windows have also been installed in the bungalows, and they are now full of life.

Already there is a lot of progress, both with the health and the mental condition of the children. Betty, our HIV positive caregiver, is also faring very well.

All have gained some weight and the condition of their skin has also improved.

Thabang does not experience ring worms over his head anymore.

The sores around Lebohang's lips and the thrush in his mouth have stopped. He had a fever two days ago and got well without any medical intervention. Normally he would have been taken to the doctor because these bouts usually developed into pneumonia. To tell you the truth, it has been my fear that any slight setback would kill him because he was weak and always tired. But now he has gained weight and is energetic.

Betty [who is HIV positive] was always sick and coughing, her skin was pale and I even suspected that she might have TB. I could not bear the thought of losing her - she is the most understanding and supportive caregiver that we have ever had (she lost her husband in November last year and has four school going children to look after). She has now picked up some weight, has stopped coughing, and her skin is glowing. That is something we have never seen before.

When I took them all for a general check-up, Dr Wessels warned me that Lerato was entering the terminal stages as he had lung infection and his health had deteriorated dramatically. But all this has now reversed.

The check-ups also revealed that Lemohang is HIV positive - something we never knew about. He was known to be withdrawn and always felt tired. This has also changed.

The good news is that constipation and diarrhea are now things of the past. Headache complaints have dropped and all are far more happy.

I must confess that I have always been under the impression that it is costly to eat healthfully, but have now discovered that this is not the case. We used to dish up large portions for the children and they would still ask for more. Now that we use Nature's Choice products, however, we dish up less than half of what they used to eat per meal. After they have had the "IncrEdibles" cereal in the morning they cannot even finish an apple alone - so one apple is shared by two.

The exciting part of the program is that the children enjoy it - they find it fun. I can see that it is going to create an even better bond between us because we do everything together. I feel I have to be exemplary, and so we take the daily walks and the daily sun bath together.

You will get a more detailed report after the blood tests are completed.

[The letter continues]

Yours in Christ

Patricia Fillies

The Most Amazing News Of All

Prior to the start of the Nature's Choice lifestyle and dietary program, all of the children had undergone HIV testing in the local government hospital. Of the eighteen children in the orphanage, seven had tested positive.

Then, just six weeks after the start of the program, the children underwent full blood tests (FBC & PV/ESR, CD4, U/E, OO Albumin-S, HIV Type I & II etcetera). Of the seven who had previously tested positive, the virus only remained detectable in three.

Almost one year later, the virus was undetectable in one of these three. This child now lives with his relatives.

The fact the virus is undetectable in these children does not necessarily mean that the children are free of the virus, but only that current methods of testing cannot locate any evidence of the virus.

Nevertheless, the good news is that all of these children, plus one adult, have been able to live a relatively normal life without the use of ARV drugs. Not one of the children has needed medical intervention, and not one has had to resort to ARV's in over 15 months.

For good measure we include a few extracts from another unsolicited letter, written one year after the start of the program. Once again the letter was written by Mrs Patricia Fillies, director of the Oreratile Orphanage, and addressed to Neville Mandy and the directors of Nature's Choice.

Dear Mr. Mandy

[Opening remarks]

We continue to be amazed at how the dietary and lifestyle program has improved the health of the children.

On the 13th of May we took seven children and one adult for blood tests and once more we experienced a wonderful blessing. Thabo, who is two and a half years old, is now HIV negative and his hole-in-the-heart is decreasing without any medical intervention. We hope and believe that there will not be any need for an operation when he turns five years as was anticipated by the doctors at the National Hospital in Bloemfontein.

Baby Kegomoditswe, also two and a half, was admitted to the center in January. Her mother passed away when she was only a few months old. She was transferred from another center because her father was dissatisfied with the persistent diarrhoea. That problem has now cleared up and she is doing very well on the programme - even though she is still HIV positive.

Lebohang (see above) celebrated his sixth birthday on the 29th of June. Having been on the program for more than a year, his health has improved greatly. In this time he has not been hospitalized even once - which is very pleasing. Before he went on the program he was hospitalized at least twice a quarter. His granny cannot hold back her tears whenever I take him for a visit. We are even looking forward to him going to school.

This year we witnessed Thabang going to school for the first time. He is doing very well on the programme and nobody can tell the difference between him and any other child - despite the fact that he is HIV positive.

Tshepo has not experienced any asthma attacks for a year. He used to have serious attacks during winter, but this winter he did not have one attack.

Winter is now almost gone and, besides a few minor colds and coughs, none of the children have had acute influenza.

Before we started on the program, we had children dying from Aids every now and then, but not anymore. Even those who were nearing the terminal stage just prior to the program have rallied and are presently doing just fine.

The very good news is that some of the children have been reunited with their relatives.

May God richly reward you, your family, and your staff for making such a difference in the lives of these children

Yours in Christ

Patricia Fillies
